The closing concert of the festival will present one of the most magnificent works of the nineteenth century – Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah. This monumental fresco depicting the prophet’s struggle for faith and justice unites dramatic power, lyrical delicacy, and profound late-Romantic spirituality. The performance will be conducted by the German maestro Roland Kluttig, one of the most highly regarded interpreters of Mendelssohn’s music. A central role will be played by the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno under the direction of Petr Fiala, whose sonic strength and refined sound are essential to Elijah. The soloists are soprano Marie Smolka, mezzo-soprano Bella Adamova, tenor Ilker Arcayürek, and baritone Krešimir Stražanac in the title role. In the acoustics of the Cathedral of the Divine Saviour, Mendelssohn’s music will resound in all its ceremonial grandeur and intimate beauty – as a spiritual culmination of the festival and a message of hope.
