Jakub Kydlíček has forged his career as conductor and recorder player. Known for the his passion for (very) early music since Trecento and renaissance polyphony, he is equally fervent performer of baroque opera, classical symphonies and contemporary recorder music.
After graduating in recorder and conducting, his interest in medieval and renaissance recorder led him to study with Corina Marti at Schola cantorum basiliensis. Than he deepend his interest by completing studies with Diego Fratelli at Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano.
He is Artistic leader of Prague Conservatory Baroque Orchestra, in addition to work with his ensembles Concerto Aventino and More Maiorum. Appears internationaly and raised his reputation as last-minute call conductor. Holds a teaching position as recorder professor at Prague conservatoire and Masaryk university in Brno. Before fully immersing himself in music, he read history and oriental studies and defended his Ph.D.
As freelance recorder player has worked with Collegium 1704, Collegium Marianum, Czech ensemble baroque, Barocco sempre giovane, Capella Mariana, Schola gregoriana and others, and toured prestigious European scenes (Prague Spring, Semperoper Dresden, Teatro Arriaga, Grand Theater de Luxembourg, Salzburger festspiele, Chateau de Versailles spectacle, Bachtage Leipzig,…).
Known for remarkable dramaturgies and programming, he explores chamber music from early 17th to mid 18th centuries with his ensemble Concerto Aventino. Favourite repertoire comprises renaissance diminutions and italian early baroque. His guilty pleasure is performing contemporary recorder music with(out) live electronics and working with composers on the premiers of new recorder pieces.
Attracted by the beauty of polyphony, focuses on sources-based interpretation of late medieval and renaissance music. For Passacaille label recorded the works by Tourout and Josquin, for Supraphone music of Charles IV. and has contributed to discovering the hidden treasures of early renaissance music from Codex Speciálník.
In the world of opera, he is keen performer of baroque and classical oeuvres. Notable performances include premieres of operas Pigmalion by J. Ph. Rameau, Aci, Galatea e Polifemo by G. F. Haendel, Gluck’s Paride ed Elena at Smetana Litomyšl festival, Zelenka ́s Sub olea Pacis or Purcell ́s The Fairy Queen, Monteverdi’s Orfeo, Benda’s Ariadna auf Naxos a.o. as well as world-premiere of opera Guzman by A. Rejcha. In 2023 worked as assistant conductor at Glyndebourne opera festival.
