Since its establishment in 2012, the Benda Quartet has positioned itself among the top chamber ensembles on the Czech music scene and has also been a guest on international stages. The quartet made its debut in 2014 as part of the subscription series of the 60th anniversary season of the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Ostrava. Benda Quartet continues to collaborate extensively with the Janáček Philharmonic, both through chamber concerts and educational workshops for children and youth.
The quartet regularly performs not only in Ostrava but is often invited to chamber music series by leading Czech institutions, such as the Czech Philharmonic’s Chamber Series. Their ongoing collaboration with the Janáčkův máj agency has led the quartet to participate in the Moravian Autumn International Music Festival and other significant cultural events within the Czech Republic, as well as in countries like Poland and Hungary. Among the other international festivals where Benda Quartet has performed are the St. Wenceslas Music Festival, Forfest Kroměříž, Mahler’s Jihlava, Beethoven’s Hradec, and the Peter Dvorský Music Festival.
Benda Quartet maintains a long-term partnership with the Czech Radio studio in Ostrava, resulting in numerous exceptional recordings. In 2020, the quartet established a regular and highly successful studio collaboration with the American company Parma Recordings, releasing several CD titles under the Navona Records label. Their participation in various chamber projects has led the quartet members to collaborate with notable artists such as the Vogler Quartet, Kelemen Quartet, Václav Hudeček, Jiří Vodička, Karel Dohnal, Vilém Veverka, Marek Kozák, and others. Benda Quartet was awarded the Moravian-Silesian Cultural Amber Award for the year 2019.
