Igor Vejsada

A Czech dancer and choreographer, he studied for a year at the Bolshoi Theatre Ballet Academy in Moscow (1975-1976) after graduating from the dance department of the Conservatory in his native Brno. He began his twenty-year career as a dancer (during which he successfully participated in national and international competitions in Bulgaria, Russia and the USA) at the National Theatre in Brno, where he performed a number of solo roles. He then joined the Hungarian Györi Ballet for two years under the direction of Béjart’s student and choreographer Ivan Markó. On his return to Czechoslovakia, he founded the New Ballet Brno, where he was also active in contemporary dance. In 1992 he became a member of the Kibbutz Dance Contemporary Company in Israel, where he is currently invited as a guest teacher. In 1994 he was offered an engagement by Philippe Talard, Artistic Director of the Ballet Company of the Nationaltheater Mannheim. He has toured in Europe and overseas, participating in festivals in the USA, Australia, China, Taiwan and Japan. From 1996 to 2014 he was head of the ballet company of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, where he created dozens of productions not only with the ballet company, but also with the opera and drama companies. Since March 2016 he has been the ballet master of The Prague Chamber Ballet.
