Jan Kvapil has performed on concert stages at home and abroad with renowned Czech and international ensembles specializing in early music since the 1990s. He has also collaborated as a soloist with modern orchestras (Talich Chamber Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc, Janáček Chamber Orchestra, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, etc.). He has also participated in premieres of works by Czech contemporary composers (R.Z. Novák, Agon ensemble), as well as recorded for radio, television and record companies. He currently runs a few projects like Trijok Ensemble and Ensemble Triflauto and performs in duo with the lutenist J. Čižmář and with the ensemble Plaisirs de Musique.
His pedagogical activity is at the heart of his interest and for many years he was the director of the Summer School of Early Music in Prachatice. Under his leadership workshops are held in many places across the country to educate teachers. He also publishes in the music press and translates professional literature. He is co-author of Flautoškola, a progressive series of textbooks published by Bärenreiter. He teaches the recorder at the Janáček Conservatory Ostrava and has worked, among others, at the Department of Music Education at Palacký University in Olomouc and the Academy of Early Music at the Masyryk University in Brno. Currently, he also teaches at the Music School Iši Krejčího in Olomouc, where he leads the large recorder ensemble Flauti Grandi.
