Czech conductor Joel Hana (born 1990) began studying orchestral conducting at the Brno Conservatory with Mgr. Stanislav Kummer and continued at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where he gained experience from prof. Mgr. Jan Zbavitel. In 2019 he obtained the master diploma.
He is the chief conductor and founder of the Sokol Symphony Orchestra of Brno I (est. 2014), with whom at the same time he organizes and conducts diverse concerts regularly such as: the concert for talented pianists from Hungary and the Czech Republic in the framework of „Mladí a ještě mladší“ concert cycle, he premiered Janáček’s composition Hudba ku kroužení kužely at the Janacek Brno festival. Hereby within the ensemble, he established collaboration with orchestras from Hong Kong, Holland, Austria and Germany. In October 2017, this orchestra performed in Vienna at the Chamber of Opera to mark the 150th anniversary of the Vienna Sokol. In July 2018 he performed in conjunction with the Police Symphony Orchestra at the Gala-Evening of the XVI Všesokolský slet at the O2 Arena in Prague, where he connected music with the output of top athletes. Live broadcast was on Czech Television sports.
He has been the conductor (since 2015) of the Police Symphony Orchestra, which performs at concert halls and often even at non-traditional venues such as the meadows beneath the Adrspach Rocks, during a tour in Denmark the orchestra made use of an area at the train station or at a safari. He performed as a conductor with this ensemble at the Smetana’s Litomyšl International Festival.
He has cooperated with the Olomouc Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brass Harmony Chamber of Brno, the Slavic Chamber Ensemble (Contemporary Music) and with the Janáček’s Academic Orchestra, where he studied the contemporary operas by P. Hala and M. Hába and the operettas of J. Offenbach and F. von Flotow.
Pedagogically he is dedicated to conducting the Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatory of the Evangelical Academy in Olomouc. He specializes in recording film music. Interpretatively, he is devoted to playing the organ and piano. He has created a duo with his wife, a flutist and singer, Hana Hána. In the summer of 2017, they performed together at concerts in the French Provence.
In 2017 he accepted an offer from the Hong Kong Orchestra for their Hong Kong Youth String Orchestra to stage and interpret Janacek’s Suite for String Orchestra as part of their tour around Europe in the Czech Republic. He performed also in October 2017 within the framework of the orchestral cycle “The Best”, with the PKF – Prague Philharmonia in October 2017 at the Martinů Hall. In the autumn of 2018 he was the assistant of conductor M. Ivanovic in the production of the Janáček Opera of The Cunning Little Vixen in the National Theater in Brno. In co-operation with Czech Television, he took part in the direction of direct transmission of the premiere of this opera for Opera Vision.
As a musician, he has been cooperating with the Czech Philharmonic since October 2018 as score asistent of video recordings. Digitization is carried out together with the team of experts in the Dvořák Hall in Rudolfinum with the most modern camera system.
In December 2018, Joel Hana ended a conducting year richly by conducting the Film´s Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the spectacular Up end Down Symphony Circus La Putyka.
In May 2018, son Sebastian was born to Hána´s family.
