Sébastien Droy

After studying Musicology at the Sorbonne University, Sébastien Droy entered the Paris National Conservatory in the class of Mireille Alcantara and graduated with distinctions in 2003.

He started his career with the Mozart repertoire: Ottavio from Don Giovanni (Tours, Monte-Carlo, Antibes), Ferrando from Cosí fan Tutte (Tours, Saint-Etienne, Beaune, Strasbourg, Angers), Idamante from Idomeneo (Strasbourg, Lyon), Belmonte from Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Saint-Etienne, Metz), Tamino from Die Zauberflöte (Saint-Etienne, Marseille, Metz, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Murten) and Agenore from Il Re Pastore (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Innsbrück).

In France and Europe, he sang numerous roles from the Baroque period to the 20th century: Calisis from Les Boréades by Rameau (Dijon), Adonis from Vénus et Adonis by Desmarest (Nancy), Pylade from Iphigénie en Tauride (Tours), Artémidore and Le Chevalier Danois from Armide by Gluck (Amsterdam), Tom Jones in the eponym opera by Philidor (Lausanne), Il Conte Almaviva from Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Nancy, Tours, Rennes, Toulon, Metz), Pâris from La Belle Hélène (Toulouse, Lausanne, Nantes, Bordeaux, Strasbourg), Fritz from La Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein (Liège), Franz from Die Rheinnixen by Offenbach (Tours), Orphée from Orphée et Eurydice (Nancy, Montpellier, Nantes), Alfred from Die Fledermaus (Toulouse), Prince Sou-Chong from Das Land des Lächelns (Tours, Avignon), Bénédict from Béatrice et Bénédict (Brussels), Andreloun from Mireille (Paris Opera), Philémon from Philémon et Baucis by Gounod (Tours), Tybalt from Roméo et Juliette (Amsterdam), Lensky from Evgeny Onegin (Tours), Il Conte Almaviva from Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Tel-Aviv), Fenton from Falstaff (Tours, Montpellier), Cassio from Otello (Marseille), Alfredo from La Traviata (Tours), Nadir from Les Pêcheurs de Perles (Bordeaux), Le Chevalier de la Force from Dialogues des Carmélites (Avignon), Don José from Carmen’s Tragedy by Marius Constant (Compiègne), Tom Rakewell from The Rake’s Progress (Nancy).

In the concert field, he sang Bach’s B Mass, Saint John’s Passion, Saint Matthew’s Passion, Buxtehude and Telemann Cantatas, Haendel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and C Mass, Dvorak’s D Mass, Schumann’s E flat Mass, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Stabat Mater and Messa di Gloria, Martini’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ, Messe Solennelle, La Damnation de Faust and La Grande Messe des Morts, Britten’s Illuminations. He sang in Shell Shock – A War Requiem by Nicholas Lens at the Paris Philharmonie for the centenary commemorations of WW1.

He sang under the baton of such conductors as Kurt Masur, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Michel Plasson, Marc Minkowski, Christophe Rousset, Jérémie Rhorer, Hervé Niquet, François-Xavier Roth, Jean-Claude Malgoire, John Nelson, Serge Baudo, Michel Corboz, Iván Fischer, Ivor Bolton…

He regularly performs in recitals (melodies and Lied) and took part in many recordings.

His engagements for season 2020-2021 include Pylade from Iphigénie en Tauride (Angers, Nantes and Rennes), Don José from La Tragédie de Carmen (touring), Cassio from Otello (Saint-Etienne). Concert-wise he will take part in Beethoven’s 9e Symphony (Switzerland), La Carmélite by Reynaldo Hahn (Toulouse), Circé by Desmarets (Versailles) and Bacchus by Massenet (Radio France Festival in Montpellier).
