Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679–1745): Missa Circumcisionis, ZWV 11
Georg Friedrich Händel (1685–1759): Dixit Dominus, HWV 232
The concert of Václav Luks with Collegio 1704 and Collegio Vocale 1704 will present two top Baroque opuses. Zelenka’s Missa Circumcisionis (ZWV 11) will captivate with its monumental concept, intact polyphonic texture and festive drama. This will be followed by Handel’s Dixit Dominus (HWV 232), full of virtuoso singing effectiveness, choral explosions and joyful spiritual take-off. Conductor Luks, with a masterful sense of detail and overall expression, will imprint both works into a beautiful spiritual and aesthetic unity, while the church space with its brilliant acoustics will enhance the experience of the rich Baroque sound palette. The audience can expect a captivating evening in which the contrast of Zelenka’s depth and Handel’s ecstasy creates an inspiring dialogue between the two faces of Baroque spiritual creation.
