Jules Massenet (1842–1912): Oratorio “Ève”
The final concert of the SHF will bring the Czech premiere of an extraordinary work that appears only exceptionally on European stages. Jules Massenet’s oratorio Eve (Ève) from 1875 is a unique spiritual composition of French Romanticism, which sets to music the biblical story of the creation and fall of man. The work, which oscillates between oratorical grandeur and operatic emotionality, combines contemplation with drama, lyricism with monument. Eve is not only the final point of the festival program, but above all a statement about the timelessness of hope, the human desire for goodness and the possibility of a new beginning – precisely those values that have long shaped the festival’s dramaturgy.
