Percussionist, teacher, studio player, specialist in Latin American percussion instruments and photographer, Kuba Kupčík, is the head of the percussion department of the Eduard Marhula Art School in Ostrava. In 2021, he was voted Teacher of the Year in a poll. The award was presented on Teachers’ Day on 28 March 2021 by the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region Prof. Ing. Ivo Vondrák, CSc.
He is an accompanist of modern dance at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, he travels with the Drumming Interactive Show and prepares new workshops, where he also plays the fantastic drums RAV PANY – the healing sound of drums. In 2000 he graduated from the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava. Two years later, he went on a study trip to Cuba.
In 2003 he founded the drumming ensemble BumBumBand, which today has 4 formations (BBB junior won the competition of the Elementary School of Arts of the Czech Republic in playing percussion instruments solo/ensembles five times in a row). For over 12 years he was the chairman of the Percussion Section of the Institute of Elementary Art of the Czech Republic. Currently, he is the regional and district chairman and methodologist for percussion instruments. He created a curriculum for teachers of the Elementary Art School of the Czech Republic in playing percussion instruments, which is still valid. In 2012 he released a DVD – Drumming Workshop I. – Percussion.
In 2024 he began his studies of Music-therapy on the University of Ostrava.
In 2020 – Established cooperation with RAV VAST. He has taught many great students who make a living playing percussion instruments today, such as Dalibor Mráz, Michal Wierzgoň, Adam Síkora, Patrik Sas, Ivo Sedláček, Jan Nepodal, Šimon Bílý, Jan Borák, Diana Šeďěnková, Jonáš Bjolek. He collaborates with bands such as Buty, Jana Kirschner Band, IMT Smile, Peter Lipa, The Gizd Q, TUTU, BBC Boris Urbánek, Ostrava Radio Orchestra – ORO, Kryštof, Benedikta, Žamboši, Druhá tráva, Mobydick.
He collaborates on theatre performances with the Antonín Dvořák Theatre, the Jiří Myron Theatre, the Petr Bezruč Theatre, the Ostrava Puppet Theatre, and Studio DVA. From 2008 to 2015 he collaborated with the Colours of Ostrava festival and the Festival in the Streets. Since 2018, he has been cooperating with the civic association Bílá holubice. Since 2019, she has been cooperating with the Čtyřlístek Center for People with Disabilities and their drumming ensemble Rytmy.
From 2016 dates his cooperation with the Permoník choir on the project Adiemus – Karl Jenkins. First as an independent multi-percussionist and then involving BumBumBand.cz. Realizations of this project took place in Karviná, Bohumín, Frýdek Místek, Ostrava, Brno, Olomouc as concerts themselves or within the SHF and also in the Múzy project (pupils of the Elementary Art School playing with JPO).
