Marie Smolka

The young soprano Marie Smolka was born in Ostrava, Czech Republic. After studying music, Marie Smolka began her career as a freelance singer where her guest appearances include performances at Staatsoper Berlin, Oper Frankfurt, Festspiele Baden Baden, Staatsoper Hannover, Grand Theatre de Sarrebourg, Teatro Massimo Palermo, and Saarländisches Staatstheater.
Her repertoire spans the entire soprano range.
Marie has enjoyed particular success with Susanna ( The Marriage of Figaro), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Gretel ( Hansel and Gretel), Nedda ( I Pagliacci ), Musette ( La Boheme), Adele ( Die Fledermaus) and Leila ( The Pearl Fishers).
She sings regularly with conductors including Marc Albrecht, Cornelius Meister, Antonello Manacorda, Konrad Junghänel, Joanna Mallwitz and Yoel Gamzou. Directors with whom she has collaborated include Marina Abramovic, Robert Carsen, Tobias Kratzer, Eva Maria Höckmeyer, Tatjana Gürbaca, Lydia Steier and Armin Petras.
In the 2022/23 season, Marie debut as Traviata in Marina Abramovic´s (7 Deaths of Maria Callas) at the Koninklijkjes Theater in Amsterdam.
Marie is also engaged at the Theater Bremen, where she will make her debut as Pamina(Die Zauberflöte), Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea) and as Angel in Peter Eötvös’ opera (Angels in America) .
Cancellations resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic include the main role in Karl Hartmann’s Simplicius Simplicissimus at the Festspiele Baden Baden, with the Berliner Philharmoniker, which is postponed until 2025 in Innsbruck ( Austria) .
In October, Marie Smolka was named “Young Artist 2022” by Opernwelt for her performances as Nedda in I Pagliacci at the Bremen Theatre. Next season she make her Debut as Mimi (La Bohéme) and Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the Theatre Innsbruck in Austria.
