The Belgian ensemble Terra Nova Collective, led by clarinettist and specialist in historical instruments Vlad Weverbergh, will present at the unique setting of the Leaning Church near Karviná a programme exploring the transition from Classicism to early Romanticism. The evening opens with Pieter van Maldere’s String Quartet in A major, a work by a prominent figure of Flemish Classical music, characterised by lightness, elegance and surprising harmonic turns. The highlight of the concert will be Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A major, performed on a historical basset clarinet, the instrument for which the composer originally conceived the work – allowing it to sound in a more intimate, darker and expressively softer tone colour. The finale features Weber’s brilliant Clarinet Quintet in B-flat major, a composition rich in virtuosic passages and lyrical cantilena, affirming the clarinet’s importance at the dawn of the 19th century. The concert offers a unique comparison of three stages in the stylistic transformation of European music.
