Orpheus Vocal group

Orpheus vocal group was founded in Lviv, Ukraine, in autumn 2000. It is a professional a cappella ensemble consisting of eight singers. All members are highly trained musicians and graduates of the Lviv National Music Academy.

The ensemble is flexible in size, allowing it to adapt to various musical styles and performance formats. While most of the repertoire is performed a cappella, Orpheus also collaborates with instrumental accompaniment when required, including orchestra, piano, organ, or recorded playback.

The group’s core repertoire includes Orthodox liturgical music, Ukrainian folk and popular songs, Ukrainian and international Christmas music, original Ukrainian compositions, selected works from world music, and renowned a cappella classics. Orpheus combines refined harmonic writing with an intricate vocal blend, as well as dynamic solo performances supported by rhythmic and expressive vocal accompaniment from the ensemble.

Between 2001 and 2026, Orpheus has given more than 2,000 concerts and completed numerous international tours, performing in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, the Netherlands, the Vatican, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Germany. In particular, the ensemble’s long-standing tradition of annual Christmas tours in the Netherlands and across Europe, as well as its annual concert tours in France and Switzerland, has played an important role in consistently representing Ukraine on the international cultural stage. Among the ensemble’s notable international appearances are performances at Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), De Doelen (Roterdam), Den Haag Congrescentrum, at the Festival de Montfaucon (Besançon, France), the Nuit des Chœurs show at Villers-la-Ville Abbey in Belgium, concert in College de Bernardins (Paris, France), etc.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Orpheus has continued its concert tours throughout Europe with the official permission of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. These performances play a significant role in supporting Ukraine and promoting the principles of cultural diplomacy. The ensemble’s concerts contribute to the establishment and development of new international cultural connections, with the aim of presenting and popularizing Ukrainian culture within the global community. Through its artistic activity, Orpheus actively supports the deepening of Ukrainian–European cultural cooperation, cultural European integration, and makes a substantial contribution to the international recognition of Ukrainian culture.

In 2019, by decree of the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, all members of the Orpheus Vocal Group were awarded the honorary state title “Honored Artist of Ukraine.”

Over 26 years of artistic activity, Orpheus has released seven audio CDs and produced three high-quality concert films featuring different performance programs.
